Bow Air Bags – A DIY Attempt
Another approach to keeping your boat afloat…
My previous article on bow air bags provoked some interesting discussion on the UK Rivers Guidebook forum. It wasn’t long before the idea of using swimming pool noodles instead popped up. It makes sense. They float and they’re cheap – we like cheap, a lot.
I used this method in my 2010 Burn, before heading out to Iceland last year. It worked well, lasting until I sold the boat. The only problem that I found is that they are a bit fiddly to reset if you have to move the footrest. They are however, maintenance free, perfect for lazy raft guides..
Here’s how I did it:
Guestimate the lengths needed and cut them to size.
Another triumph for duct tape!
Testing the fit…
Stuff as much in there as possible, before re-fitting the footrest.
Enjoy using boat. Blame any swim on “testing my air bags…”
